Off the Ship and On Your Way

Cruise passengers come ashore at three ports in the Republic: Cobh in Cork Harbour, Dublin Port, and Dún Laoghaire Harbour, where ships anchor in Dublin Bay. Choose yours for berth details and the lines that call.

Cobh: step ashore in the town

At Cobh you land on the quayside beside the Cobh Heritage Centre, with the railway station just across from the berth. For a shore day beyond Cork city, a minibus makes life easier. Blarney, Kinsale and Midleton each sit within about half an hour of Cork, and the city itself is around 18 km inland.

Dún Laoghaire: in by tender

Here ships anchor offshore and passengers come in by tender to St Michael's Pier. Vehicles wait in a harbour compound right beside the pontoon, so the walk from boat to minibus is a short one.

Rules worth knowing

  • Larger ships may berth at Ringaskiddy Deepwater Quay, across the harbour from Cobh

Dublin Port: plan around all-aboard

Ships tie up inside the working port, about 4 km from the city centre. Much of what passengers want to see lies across the city or out towards Wicklow and the Boyne Valley, so build the day backwards from the all-aboard time.

Questions

What details should I send?

The ship's name, the date, arrival and all-aboard times, how many are in your party and where you'd like to go.

Does the booking include a guide?

It covers the vehicle and driver. Admission tickets and a guide aren't part of it unless your quote lists them.

How much margin should we leave?

Plenty. Tender landings at Dún Laoghaire take time, and it is wise to be back well before all-aboard at any port.

Where does your ship call?
