Sligo and Yeats Country by Minibus

Sligo's ancient tombs, Yeats landmarks and Atlantic beaches are all close to town, so your group spends the day seeing places rather than driving between them. We find you a minibus and driver from a licensed, insured local operator.

Flying in to Knock

Your nearest airport, Ireland West Airport Knock, is 62 km or so from town, 45 minutes to an hour via the N17 and N4. Waiting isn't permitted in the drop-off zone outside the terminal, and the airport asks anyone meeting arrivals to use its on-site car park, so that's where your pick-up is arranged.

Arriving through Dublin instead? The N4 and M4 bring you west, passing the Kilcock-Kinnegad toll point on the way.

A day in Yeats country

Carrowmore's passage tombs are only 10 minutes from town. Drumcliffe churchyard, with Yeats's grave under Benbulben, is some 15 minutes north, and Lissadell House on Sligo Bay about 20. You'll have time for all three, a long lunch and perhaps Glencar Waterfall on the way back.

Setting down in town

Sligo County Council runs a coach drop-off and collection point on Markievicz Road, a short walk from the centre, and other vehicles caught using it are ticketed. It's a reliable meeting place after you've explored Sligo Abbey and the shops.

If your group is staying at Strandhill or Rosses Point, the driver can collect you at the hotel door.

Pilgrimages and the road north

Knock Shrine is about 50 minutes away, a comfortable morning for a pilgrimage group. If anyone uses a wheelchair, ask for a wheelchair-accessible minibus; one common layout has 10 seats plus a wheelchair space.

Donegal town is about an hour north, which suits a half-day, or can start a longer trip up the coast. Sligo GAA play at Markievicz Park and Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds, if a match is on your list.
