Carlingford, the medieval village on Carlingford Lough, is about 25 minutes from Dundalk. Plenty of visitors stay there, and a pickup from a Carlingford guesthouse is just as easy to arrange as one from town or Ballymascanlon.

On the way, Proleek Dolmen near Ballymascanlon is only about 10 minutes out, a quick photo stop before the mountain and lough scenery takes over.

Flying in and out of Dublin

Dublin Airport is about 75 km south on the M1, around 50 minutes, and the route runs through the tolled section between Gormanston and Monasterboice. Give us your flight numbers so the driver is waiting when you actually land, not when you were due to.

On the way home, leave extra time for loading bags, a headcount and check-in queues. Nobody enjoys sprinting to a gate at the end of a lovely trip.

Heading further: Newgrange or Belfast

Brú na Bóinne is about 40 minutes south. The tombs are reached by shuttle bus from the visitor centre, and parties of 15 to 30 need to pre-book a group time slot, so do that before you confirm transport.

Belfast in Northern Ireland is about 85 km north, roughly an hour and a quarter. Make a full day of it, with lunch in the city and time to explore before the drive back.

Parking near the ground isn't something we can promise, so the operator confirms the set-down point for your group along with each pickup address.

Is there a toll between Dundalk and Dublin Airport?

Yes, the M1 passes the Gormanston to Monasterboice toll. Ask for the quote to state whether tolls are included.

What should we book for a group of 25?

A 16 to 19 seat minibus won't take 25, so we'd suggest a midi coach, which typically seats 29 to 35 and has underfloor luggage bays.
