Drogheda Minibuses for Boyne Valley Days

Drogheda puts some of Ireland's oldest monuments within a quarter of an hour of your hotel. With a minibus and a driver, your group can see several of them in one day without anyone hunting for parking or reading a map.

Book your Newgrange slot before anything else

Every visit to Newgrange and Knowth starts from the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre, roughly a quarter of an hour's drive away. From there everyone travels to the tombs on the site's own shuttle bus, while your minibus waits in the visitor centre's coach parking.

Groups of 15 to 30 must pre-book a group time slot. Secure that first, then send us the time and we'll build the pickup and the rest of the day around it.

Filling the rest of your day

Ten minutes west, at Oldbridge, you can walk the ground where the 1690 battle was fought. Monasterboice is a quarter of an hour away for its tall carved crosses and round tower, and if ruins are your thing, Old Mellifont was Ireland's earliest Cistercian foundation. Slane is around 20 minutes along the valley and makes a relaxed lunch stop.

Back in Drogheda, parish groups may like to visit St Oliver Plunkett's shrine inside St Peter's Church, and Millmount Museum and its Martello Tower look out over the rooftops.

Flights, the M1 toll and Carlingford

With the airport only about 40 km down the M1, a 30 to 35 minute run, Drogheda is a gentle first night after a long flight. The stretch of M1 between Gormanston and Monasterboice is tolled, so ask for your quote to show how that's covered.

Fancy a change of scene? Carlingford is about 45 minutes north. And if you're staying out in the Boyne Valley or near Slane rather than in town, just send the addresses; the operator checks where a minibus can set down and park at each.

Questions

Will the driver take us right up to Newgrange?

No. Only the site's own shuttle goes to the tombs. Your driver drops you at the visitor centre and waits in its coach parking while you're out on the tour.

Can you get our club to a match at Weavers Park?

Yes. Drogheda United play at Weavers Park, also known as United Park. Send the kick-off time and where the team is staying, and one minibus can cover both legs.

How many people fit in a minibus?

Usually 16 to 19. For a larger parish or school group, a midi coach or full-size coach may suit better, and the Brú na Bóinne visitor centre has space for coaches.
