Flying into Donegal

The closest runway is Donegal Airport at Carrickfinn, roughly 45 minutes' drive. Ireland West Airport Knock is further south, and Dublin Airport is about 240 km away, roughly three hours. For the Dublin run, a minibus with a rear luggage compartment keeps cases out of the aisle.

A day at Glenveagh

Glenveagh National Park is about 30 minutes from town. Private vehicles, minibuses included, go no further than the car park by the visitor centre; from there the park runs its own shuttle up to the castle. Book the group visit online first, then confirm your transport.

Up to Inishowen and across to Derry

The Grianán of Aileach stone ring fort is about 25 minutes away on Inishowen, and Malin Head, Ireland's most northerly point, around an hour and a quarter. Put them together for a full Wild Atlantic Way day.

Derry, across the border in Northern Ireland, is only about 35 minutes, which makes it an easy half-day for shopping, the walls or a meal out.

Is Slieve League worth the drive?

The Slieve League sea cliffs are about 100 km away, roughly an hour and three-quarters each way. They're spectacular, but treat them as a whole day with an early start. The rules give the driver a break of 45 minutes or more once they have driven four and a half hours, so a long lunch stop suits everyone.

Around town

St Eunan's Cathedral is right in town, An Grianán Theatre hosts shows, and O'Donnell Park stages St Eunan's GAA and Donegal football games. Hotels cluster around Main Street and Port Road; the operator confirms stopping and parking at whichever ones you give us.

No. Your minibus parks by the visitor centre and the national park's shuttle carries everyone the rest of the way.

How long is the drive from Dublin Airport?

Can we see Malin Head and Grianán of Aileach on one trip?

Yes. Grianán is about 25 minutes from Letterkenny and Malin Head about an hour and a quarter, so both fit into a full day.
