Out the door to the bus terminus

Your minibus or coach loads at the bus terminus just outside the terminal doors, so the walk with suitcases, buggies or golf bags is very short.

Part of the family coming by train? Farranfore railway station is only 1.4 km away, and a quick station stop can go on the same run.

Killarney or Tralee first

It's about a quarter of an hour to Killarney and a couple of minutes more to Tralee. Killarney reserves the East Avenue laybys for bus set-down, which keeps drop-offs close to the centre, and the county council keeps an eye on the town's bus parking spaces.

Group hotels in Killarney sit in the town centre, along Muckross Road, around Park Road and East Avenue, and out at Fossa on the Killorglin road. In Tralee, look at the town centre, Ballyard on the Killarney road, or Fenit by the sea.

Worth knowing at Kerry Airport

• Cork and Limerick are about an hour and a half away by road.
• Farranfore railway station is 1.4 km from the terminal.
• At Farranfore, between Killarney (about 15-20 min) and Tralee (about 15-20 min).

Kerry days out

Allow a full day with stops for the Ring of Kerry, a loop of about 180 km. Dingle is about an hour and a quarter from Killarney, Kenmare about 45 minutes, and Kate Kearney's Cottage, the start of the Gap of Dunloe, just 15 minutes.

Muckross House has separate coach parking but asks every group to reserve in advance. On narrow Kerry roads, a minibus or midi coach is often easier going than a full-size coach.

Flying into Cork or Shannon instead

Cork and Limerick are both about an hour and a half from Farranfore by road, and Cork Airport is about 1.5 hours from Killarney. That longer first transfer counts against the driver's daily limit of nine hours at the wheel, so keep your arrival day light.

A few sets will, but the rear compartment fills fast. For a larger golf group, ask about a midi coach with underfloor bays.
