Premier Ireland Coach Services

When your group needs a full-size coach

Once your group outgrows two minibuses, a single full-size coach keeps everyone on the same timetable and every suitcase in the same place.

Size and storage

A full-size coach usually seats between 49 and 57 people. Two- and three-axle models run to roughly 12 to 14 m, and suitcases travel in bays beneath the floor: about 12 m³ on a 13 m Tourismo. That's why a coach is the natural pick for a tour of Ireland, a big airport arrival or a festival day when the whole group wants to stay together.

What the coach has to meet

Behind every coach hire there should be a Road Passenger Transport Operator Licence, and each year the coach goes through a CVRT roadworthiness test. The driver needs a category D licence, and a tachograph logs driving and rest under Regulation (EC) 561/2006. On board, anyone aged 3 or over wears a seat belt where one is fitted.

Typical features

  • Hired out under a Road Passenger Transport Operator Licence, and must pass an annual CVRT roadworthiness test
  • Driver holds a category D licence
  • Tachograph fitted; driving and rest times per Regulation (EC) 561/2006
  • Passengers aged 3 or over must wear seat belts where fitted
  • Two- or three-axle, roughly 12-14 m long

Stopping in towns and at airports

A vehicle this long can't stop just anywhere. In central Dublin, boarding happens only at signed coach stops, Nassau Street being one; on-street coach bays allow two hours of parking but no loading, and a coach waiting longer heads to the NTA Docklands Coach Park. Coaches with more than 25 seats use the Dublin Port Tunnel toll-free.

At Dublin Airport, private-hire coaches meet their passengers at the Zone 16 coach park. In Killarney, the East Avenue laybys are for set-down only, and in Kilkenny coaches park along Castle Road below the castle, with overflow at Larchfield on busy days.

Questions

How many people fit on a full-size coach?

Between 49 and 57 in most cases, varying by model. Your quote shows the seat count for the coach offered.

Where will the coach meet us at Dublin Airport?

Private-hire coaches collect groups at the Zone 16 coach park. Agree the meeting arrangements before you fly and allow time to get there with luggage.

Can a coach reach a country-house hotel?

Not always. At 12 to 14 m it may have to set down on the nearest suitable road. A midi coach or minibus copes better with narrow lanes.
