Killarney, the Lakes and the Ring of Kerry by Minibus

Killarney sits on the edge of its national park, so lakes, woods and mountains begin where the town ends. We line up a minibus and driver from a licensed operator, and your group follows the scenery all day and is still back in time for dinner.

Arriving in Kerry

Fly into Kerry Airport and you're only 15 to 20 minutes out: it's at Farranfore, about 13 km north of town. Coaches and buses use the bus terminus directly outside the main terminal, so you won't have far to go with your bags. Cork Airport is about an hour and a half by road.

Back in town, East Avenue's laybys are kept for setting down bus passengers only, and Kerry County Council monitors bus parking in the centre. Your driver will drop you there and come back at the agreed time.

Muckross, Ross Castle and Torc

Every group must reserve Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms in advance. There's separate coach parking and no parking charge once you arrive.

Ross Castle is the place for a boat trip on Lough Leane. From the N71 car park it's a short stroll to Torc Waterfall; further along the same road, Ladies View looks out towards Kenmare.

The Gap of Dunloe

The Gap is a mountain pass for walking, cycling or riding a jaunting car, starting from Kate Kearney's Cottage. That's about 15 minutes from town, so your driver takes you to the start and can meet you again afterwards.

Full days: the Ring and Dingle

Going all the way round the Ring of Kerry means about 180 km, a full day once you add stops. Dingle is about an hour and a quarter each way, and Kenmare around 45 minutes. A minibus or midi coach copes better than a big coach with the narrow stretches.

Any minibus with more than nine seats carries a tachograph, so driving time is recorded. If you'd like to squeeze two long routes into one day, ask and the operator will say what fits.

Do we need to book Muckross House?

Yes. All groups must reserve in advance, whatever their size.

Will our driver take us through the Gap of Dunloe?

Not by road. Walkers, cyclists and jaunting cars take the Gap from Kate Kearney's Cottage, and that is where the driver drops you.

Which airport should we fly into for Killarney?

Kerry Airport is the closest, 15 to 20 minutes away. Cork Airport is about an hour and a half.

Where does the minibus set us down in town?

At the bus set-down laybys on East Avenue, close to the centre.
