A people carrier for families and small parties
When there are too many of you for a car but a minibus feels too big, a people carrier with a driver keeps the family or the foursome together, bags and all.
Seats, comfort and luggage
Think of a Mercedes V-Class or a comparable Sprinter-class van with 7 or 8 seats. A V-Class carries up to 8 people including the driver, so seven passengers. Depending on the vehicle, seating can be benches, individual seats or luxury chairs.
Luggage space is roomier with a row free and much tighter with every seat taken. Seven adults with large suitcases, or golfers with full bags, might be better off in a minibus, or with a second vehicle.

How it's licensed
Hired for up to 8 passengers, a people carrier must be licensed by the NTA as a hackney or limousine. It's pre-booked, and the fare is agreed before you travel. It can't be hailed on the street like a taxi, and the licence type can be shown on your quote if you'd like it.
Beyond 8 passengers, the rules change: the trip then has to be run by an operator holding a Road Passenger Transport Operator Licence, using a bus or minibus.
Typical features
- Hired with up to 8 passengers, it must be an NTA-licensed hackney or limousine, pre-booked with the fare agreed in advance
- Configurable seating: benches, separate or luxury seats
- Mercedes-Benz V-Class seats up to 8 occupants, including the driver
Who it suits
Families arriving at the airport with prams and cases, small golf groups, a few executives heading to a meeting and small VIP parties all fit well. A people carrier can pull in anywhere a car can: a narrow lane, a busy terminal forecourt or the front of a townhouse hotel, all places a coach can't manage. Over a two-day trip with several stops, the same driver can stay with you throughout.
Questions
How many passengers does a people carrier take?
Seven in a V-Class, since it holds 8 people counting the driver. Check the exact layout on the quote.
Is it the same as booking a taxi?
Not quite. It has to hold an NTA hackney or limousine licence, so you book ahead and agree the fare before the journey.
Will luggage for the whole family fit?
Often, if a seat row is free. With every seat taken space gets tight, so let the operator know how many bags you have and how big they are.
